“The values that Americans say define the national character are changing, as younger generations rate patriotism, religion and having children as less important to them than did young people two decades ago,” Wall Street Journal reporter Chad Day wrote about the results.
A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll claims that Millennials are less American than ever before. Less in terms of what defines a traditional American, that is. Less patriotic, less religious, aren’t hep to have kids, and hold more favorable views of socialism.
Sean Hannity featured the poll, along with his analysis, Monday evening. Millennials’ direction is a critical concern. They’ll become the lead dogs once the boomers and Xers vanish.
So, what happened to cause this shift?
The 1960s happened, for starters. The mid 60s inaugurated the youth movement and counterculture. Traditional values were kicked to the curb.
Adolescent indulgence became the standard (“If it feels good, do it.”). When you’re forever 17, who wants to assume adult responsibilities like marriage and family – and the hard work that comes with both? God? God is dead. Science says so – and God spoils the fun. Capitalism, free enterprise? Tools of oppression. The stars and stripes? Ditto! A symbol of American oppression.
Traditional Americans have been fighting a multi-decade war. So far, the good guys have beaten back the worst of the culture rot and degradation of the nation. But the war is far from over. Plenty of damage has been done to the society that underpins the nation.
What else happened? The left – which is the umbrella for anti-traditional America – were shrewd. They invaded education at all levels. Leftists understood well the need to indoctrinate its values. The left doubled down in the arts and entertainment, the news media, and government. They’ve captured the rising generation. Conservatives pretty much ceded all this to eager leftists. Not smart.
Socialism? That today’s youth parrot their teachers’ and profs’ belief in this very failed "ism" shouldn’t surprise anyone. Socialism is factually and historically a failure. But, for some, it’s a religion substitute. For many young Americans, it’s boutique fashion. If these mostly affluent Millennials had to really live under true socialism, they’d fight for capitalism.
The nation’s future is imperiled. The cold war rages for America’s heart and soul. The outcome is uncertain. We can no longer cede institutions and sectors to the left. Fighting back and winning means taking back.
Without God, family, flag, and liberty, there is no America. Whatever remained on these shores would be something very alien, indeed.
